Dear Friends,

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Carol Craig is fighting for her life. She is suffering from end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which also afflicted her mother. Although she was diagnosed in 1999, the disease has worsened, and doctors have told her a lung transplant is critical to her survival. Carol recently began the evaluation process in hopes of being added to the transplant waiting list soon.

Despite her struggles, Carol, a caring wife, mother and grandmother, remains positive about her future. She is thankful for the support of her husband, James, and their three adult sons. She looks forward to the lifesaving transplant that will allow her to attend her granddaughter’s activities and spend many more years watching her grow up. But she needs your help.

Unfortunately, Carol’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

A lung transplant costs approximately $450,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Carol faces significant medical expenses. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The medications can cost as much as $3,000 per month—and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

It is expected that Carol will face $90,000 in out-of-pocket expenses in just the first year after receiving her transplant.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others?

The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Carol and her family. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with advocacy and fundraising support for 26 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable NFT to provide Carol with the financial support she desperately needs.

You can help in the following ways:

  • Send a tax-deductible donation. Please make your check payable to NFT Oklahoma Lung Fund. Remember to write “in honor of Carol Craig” on the memo line.
